THE LATEST NEWS, RUMORS AND CHANGES IN THE TRUCK WORLD SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA’S GALPIN MOTORS, HOME TO THE WORLD-FAMOUS GALPIN AUTO SPORTS (GAS), RECENTLY ANNOUNCED THAT IT HAS FOUND THE FAMED, LONG-LOST ED “BIG DADDY” ROTH CUSTOM ’56 FORD F-100 PICKUP. The ’56 Ford is the first noteworthy custom truck ever done by the famous Rat Fink designer. It was used as advertising for Roth’s pinstriping business and featured a Packard V-8 engine, Roth’s signature red flame pinstripes, a mural on the tonneau cover and chrome-plated parts. The truck had been stored in a barn in Oklahoma for more than 30 years.Subscribe to our weekly newsletter While Galpin plans to completely restore the truck, it can currently be seen in the condition it was found for a limited time. 12 DECEMBER 2016 | STREETTRUCKS GAS’s team of craftsmen will then fully restore the truck using NOS and periodcorrect parts and equipment, and its debut is scheduled for the 2017 Grand National Roadster Show. “THE ’56 FORD IS THE FIRST NOTEWORTHY CUSTOM TRUCK EVER DONE BY THE FAMOUS RAT FINK DESIGNER.” The team at Galpin retrieved the vehicle during an epic three-day road trip and brought it back to be prepped for restoration. GAS has been responsible for many other iconic and unusual restorations, such as Roth’s Orbitron, Mysterion, Tweedy Pie, and Dan Woods’ Ice Truck, so the crew is well prepared to tackle such an important build. DAD WOULD DIG IT! MARC MULLIN HAS BEEN WORKING STEADILY ON HIS EARLY C-10, WHICH IS A ROLLING TRIBUTE TO HIS LATE FATHER. There’s a lot of interest on the truck’s progress on Instagram at @bloodsweatandbeard, which has kept Marc motivated and even landed him an interview on the C10 Talk podcast. With a full roster of folks and companies willing to help out, we hope to see Marc’s C-10 in the flesh as soon as it’s done.
