Testing Three New Tire-and-Wheel Combos on Custom Trucks

As avid truck enthusiasts, we recently had the opportunity to test out three different wheel-and-tire combinations on some cool custom trucks. The goal was to represent different styles of custom and classic truck setups, and the trucks we used were a lifted 2006 Chevy Silverado, a 2014 Nissan Armada, and a 1996 Chevy Tahoe.

 Truck No. 1, the lifted 2006 Chevy Silverado, was fitted with 35×15.50×24 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T tires wrapped around 24×14 Arkon Off-Road Churchill with an offset of +81mm, thanks to the crew at Exclusive Offsets for the installation. This combination perfectly represented the lifted truck look, and the Silverado looked like a true beast on the road. The aggressive tread pattern of the Baja Boss A/T tires and the deep-dish design of the Arkon Off-Road Churchill wheels gave the Silverado an aggressive and commanding presence on the road. If we go off-road, this combination would be an absolute pleasure to ride, and the Silverado will have no trouble navigating even the toughest terrain.

 Truck No. 2, the 2014 Nissan Armada, was fitted with the latest tire from Atturo. The Trail Blade ATS, sized at 305/35R24 along with these 24×10 Asanti Black Corona Truck wheels look so good in person. This combination represented the factory replacement style and gave the Armada a sleek and modern appearance on the road. The street-oriented tread pattern of the Atturo Trail Blade ATS tires and the elegant design of the Asanti Black Corona Truck wheels reduced road noise and provided a smooth ride. However, due to the lower profile choice of tires, the Armada had a slightly harsher ride over bumps, which was expected.

 Truck No. 3, this sweet and smooth 1977 Chevy Blazer, was fitted with Tire 3, the Nexen Roadian. The Detroit Steel Wheel Mack 22×9 with an offset of +18mm is a killer look for this classic truck. This combination represented the classic cruiser look, and the Tahoe looked like a true classic on the road. The balanced tread pattern of the Toyo Proxes ST3 tires and the classic design of the Detroit Steel Wheel Mack wheels provided a comfortable ride and reduced road noise compared to the other combinations.

Overall, we were impressed with all three wheel and tire combinations we tested. Each combination represented a different truck style and performed well in its intended use. If you’re in the market for a new set of wheels and tires, consider your needs and the look you’re going for before making your decision. It’s incredible how much a set of wheels and tires can transform the look and performance of your truck, no matter if it’s a lifted Chevy Silverado, a lowered Nissan Armada, or a classic Chevy Tahoe.

01. Before the upgrade: This 2006 Chevy Silverado has old wheels and a slightly squatted suspension. We are going to fix both today.
02. With all the parts in stock, it’s time to get the truck in the shop, on the lift, and get those old wheels off.

03. We also need to remove the rear leaf spring bolts to make room for a new leaf.
04. With the new leaf installed, the guys at Exclusive Offset can re-bolt the rear suspension back together.

05. In the front, we have a nice chrome plate to put behind the front crossmember to add a little bling. This does not affect the stance or the ride; it’s just for looks—and it looks great!
06. It’s time to mount the new wheels and tires. These 24-inch Arkon Churchill wheels look amazing, and they will look even better wrapped in brand new 13×15.50×24 Mickey Thompson tires.

07. All we have left to do is bolt on the new wheels and back the truck out of the shop. These wheels are so wide that we have to watch the lift as we back out. It looks great, though, so far.
08. Boom! This 2006 Chevy Silverado looks impressive on 24-inch Arkon wheels. Those Mickey Thompson tires look amazing as well!

10. Next up is this 2014 Nissan Armada. This truck recently received a new paintjob, and it’s time to upgrade the wheels to a new, more modern setup.
11. Yes, a picture of a great representation of smaller wheels with bigger tires and bigger wheels with smaller tires. They both have the same overall height.
12. We went with the new Atturo Trail Blade ATS tire for this daily driver. This tire is designed as the most aggressive all-terrain tire available. The Trail Blade ATS features deep tread blocks and siping for control in any terrain and wide channels to flush away water, mud, and snow. Perfect for the family hauler.

15. Even with larger look, there is no additional wheelwell space needed for clearance. We have full U-turn radius and do not have any rubs on the bumps
16. This may not be your flavor, but I am sure we can both agree that this truck looks far better than it did before. Whatever family is cruising in it will look better and be much safer on these new tires.
17. Truck No. 3 is a 1977 Chevy Blazer that is fresh out of the shop and ready for rollers.

19. We ordered these wheels with the perfect offset. They are 22×9 all the way around so we can rotate them as well.
