TEXT BY CHRIS HAMILTON AND ARKONSubscribe to our weekly newsletter IT WAS APRIL 1970 WHEN MARVEL COMICS RELEASED “THE AVENGERS” ISSUE #75, AND WITH IT CAME A NEW SUPERHERO TO THE WORLD OF SCI-FI. Arkon the Magnificent succeeded in becoming the greatest warrior of his people in the largest country on the planet. Arrive, conquer and win over the people in his community was the storyline for those comics, and now we can watch that same scenario play out in real life in an industry we all know and love. With so many custom wheels currently in the aftermarket truck market, and new companies seemingly popping up each week, you would wonder how many times the wheel can be reinvented— literally. But when an all new company comes along out of nowhere and becomes the second bestselling wheel in the USA, it tends to pique our interest a bit. So, what makes ARKON OFF-ROAD wheels different than your typical aftermarket wheel company? More than you probably expect… The primary marketing medium of ARKON’s young team centers on social media. If you search @arkonoff road on Instagram or Facebook, a steady stream of high-quality content will be injected into your feed on a daily basis. Professionally produced images and videos showing off the company’s wheels and lifted truck builds is the focus of its foundation, but selling top-quality truck gear is priority No. 1. This new company had a unique business model to grow at a rapid pace, and thanks to its dedicated team of graphic designers, videographers and social media personnel, ARKON OFF-ROAD is already beginning to take over, much like its comic book namesake. It’s great to see the product companies using this new-age media to promote their brand, which is a road map plenty of other brands should follow. NOW THAT THEY HAVE A RUNNING TRUCK WITH COMPLETED SUSPENSION, IT’S TIME TO FOCUS ON SOME OTHER DETAILS LIKE INTERIOR AND PAINT. PROFESSIONALLY PRODUCED IMAGES AND VIDEOS SHOWING OFF ARKON OFF-ROAD WHEELS AND LIFTED TRUCK BUILDS ARE THE FOCUS OF THE COMPANY’S FOUNDATION, BUT SELLING TOP-QUALITY TRUCK GEAR IS PRIORITY NO. 1. ARKON DESIGNED THIS WHEEL WITH A SEEMINGLY ENDLESS LIP AND AN AGGRESSIVE CONCAVE FACE, RESULTING IN THIS 1-YEAROLD COMPANY CLIMBING THE CHARTS TO THE TOP IN NO TIME AT ALL. STREET TRUCKS So, tell us about ARKON OFF-ROAD. ARKON OFF-ROAD Engineered and created with one purpose in mind: Give lifted show truck enthusiasts what they truly wanted from a wheel company. A joint venture between Custom Offsets and SD Wheel, ARKON OFF-ROAD has every intention to redefine the truck wheel market, offering Proper Directional wheels in new styles that stand out from the competition in more ways than one. ST What does Proper Directional mean anyway? AOR Well we’re glad you asked. Proper Directional is ARKON’s term for a “true-directional” design pattern in the face of the wheel. Left side and right side both have forward facing motion to their design. If you have never noticed that some wheels flow backwards on non-directional wheels, you will now, and it will bug you for life. You’re welcome. If you order up a set of ARKON OFF-ROAD wheels, you will receive a pair of left wheels and a pair of rights. ST Why does this matter? AOR Because all ARKON OFF-ROAD wheel designs are directional in nature, meaning that the wheel designs “twist” a certain direction. By receiving a left and right pair, this keeps all wheels angled in the same direction, regardless of what side of the truck you’re on. ST We assume this adds cost to the production? AOR Yes, it’s incredibly expensive to do, lol. That’s why Proper Directional wheels are extremely unique among cast wheels currently on the market. ARKON OFF-ROAD is one of the only companies offering truly directional cast wheels right now, and that’s a big deal. ST So how has the response been so far? AOR Well, our ARKON Lincoln model is the second-bestselling wheel in the nation. How’s that for an introduction! ST What specifically makes the Lincoln model so special? AOR Well, the ARKON Lincoln is a simplistic wheel, with some subtle design elements that make it stand out. This is a “hybrid” wheel, which means it features both concavity in its spokes and an aggressive lip to deliver fans of both styles a compromise. ARKON designed this wheel with a seemingly endless lip, and an aggressive concave face, resulting in this 1-year-old company climbing the charts to the top in no time at all. ST How do you come up with these killer designs? AOR With all of ARKON designs, the cues and ideas came from the consumer and listening to what a show truck guy or gal really wanted. For example, spiked lug nuts have become increasingly popular with aftermarket wheels, and so ARKON wheels are all made with exposed lug holes to run spikes. The wheel models follow a “clean and simple” theme, with no rivets running around the rim of the wheel; only a small, milled ARKON logo is featured on the rim. The center caps are also as small and as minimalistic as possible, with a brushed K logo to show off the brand without distracting from the wheel design. ST So, after the success of the Lincoln, what’s next? AOR The Lincoln catapulted ARKON forward, and we have followed up strong with the ARKON Crown Series lineup. The first released model, the Crown Series Victory, features real metal hardware, a removable aluminum ring and a center cap that has a removable center logo. This leaves endless combinations for you to make your aftermarket wheels truly custom. Paint or powdercoat the face, or the lip, or the ring, or the center cap logo; you get the idea. There are so many options with this wheel, and you can easily create a custom two-piece looking wheel but have one-piece wheel pricing! The Crown Series Victory landed at our front door, and we knew we needed to dig into customizing these and bringing a hands-on review to see what the hype is all about. ARKON does not translate those added costs to the customer. We fight to keep our factory-direct wheels as competitively priced as possible while pushing to deliver the industry’s demands.
