A Pandemic Premiere
Imagine putting over a year of time, effort and money into an annual event and then, a month before the gates open, finding out that a national pandemic was approaching the country. The stress and logistical chaos that followed after hearing the news reports must have been on another level for the Showoff crew. Luckily, the state of Texas handled everything quickly enough for the event to happen as scheduled.
When we heard they received the official green light, we couldn’t wait to check out this event being hosted at the Aveva Stadium in Houston, Texas.
On Friday, the gates opened at 10 a.m. for vendors and pre-registered vehicles, while the local public had to wait until noon for everyone to set up. This was a true exhibit-style event, which was unique and appreciated. An official pre-party kicked off Friday night at Bombshells Restaurant and Bar in Pearland.
After a late night of drinking and talking shop, plenty of trucks were lined up and ready to enter when the gates opened at 8 a.m. on Saturday. To give the spectators a break from custom trucks, family friendly games and competitions kicked off at noon, including kid’s coloring contest, a chocolate milk chug, pickle eating challenge, the tire toss game, a truck limbo and even a beer chug-off. All this excitement combined with DJ Paul spinning tracks to make for a relaxing and fun day, which is what everyone in attendance needed.
Once all the trucks were judged and the votes were tallied, award announcements took place at 6 p.m. before everyone cleaned up and rolled out together. The Showoff crew put a ton of thought into the awards for this event, and everyone who took home a trophy deserved it. Next year’s event is coming up fast, so be sure to follow them online so we see you at the next one!
