Resto-Mod 1954 GMC 100: A Journey of Passion and Craftsmanship

Bill Bethauser’s Resto-Mod 1954 GMC 100

In the heart of West Melbourne, Florida, resides a piece of automotive history meticulously restored and customized by Bill Bethauser. A journey that began with nostalgic memories of a family farm’s 1952 GMC 100 has been restored and modified into a stunning 1954 GMC 100—a true testament to craftsmanship and dedication.

Bill’s quest for the perfect truck led him through twists and turns, fueled by late-night conversations and wrench-turning with friends like Gavin and Matt. Their legendary “Tampa” adventures, often veering off-course, eventually led them to discover the truck that would become Bill’s latest passion project.

Over a decade in the making, this restoration project was not without its challenges. Life’s demands delayed progress, but determination persevered. The truck underwent a comprehensive transformation, starting with the installation of suspension components, but ended up with a full strip-down at Modern Classics.

Every detail of the truck received attention. From the frame, powdercoated by Precision Powder Coating in Melbourne, Florida , to the interior masterfully crafted by Robbie Collins at Hank’s Upholstery, no aspect was overlooked.

This truck isn’t just a showpiece—it’s a member of the family while attending events like SEMA, Slamfest, and BloodDrag.

Underneath the vintage patina exterior lies a modern powerhouse—a 2003 Chevrolet 5.3 LS engine, balanced and blueprinted by Modern Classics. With upgrades including GM fuel injectors, Block Hugger headers, and a custom exhaust system from Modern Classics, this truck packs both style and performance.

The drivetrain boasts a GM Performance 4L60E transmission with custom modifications, paired with a rear axle from a 2003 Oldsmobile Bravada. Wilwood disc brakes provide the stopping power, while Firestone airbags and Jimenez Bros suspension components offer a slammed smooth ride.

For Bill Bethauser, the journey from reminiscing about his family’s farm truck to creating his own custom masterpiece has been a lengthy and stressful process. It all pays off though as he cruises the streets of West Melbourne in this killer 1954 GMC 100.

Under the custom wood bed floor sits a rear axle from a 2003 Oldsmobile Bravada with Firestone airbags and Jimenez Bros suspension components combined for a slammed appearance and a smooth ride.

Inside, the weathered brown leather bench seat from Hank’s Upholstery exudes comfort and style, complemented by a Colorado Customs steering wheel. The attention to detail extends to every corner, from the custom-built kick panels by Demetri Matheos to the personalized touches added by David Vehlie and Gavin.

This truck isn’t just a showpiece—it’s a member of the family while attending events like SEMA, Slamfest, and BloodDrag. It’s a tribute to the memories of days gone by and the result of a bond between man and machine.
