EVENT COVERAGE | NSRA STREET RODS AND COOL CLASSICS

NSRA’s 32nd Annual Show from Tampa, Florida

IF THE ANNUAL COLLECTION OF National Street Rod Association events around the country is not currently on your radar, it might be time to add this entertaining series to your schedule. While street rods are usually the flavor of choice, this event also features an amazing collection of cool classic trucks as well as a weekend jam packed with activity. This year’s Florida show was held at the Tampa Fairgrounds and attracted a collection of more than 1,000 vehicles.

The party started on Friday with entertainment at the host hotel, followed by the huge collection of vehicles that filled the fairgrounds on Saturday. Drivers and spectators enjoyed the opportunity to see the latest vehicles and reacquaint with old friends. Highlights included the commercial exhibitors, swap meet, women’s world, car corral and the model car contest for the kids.

On a practical note, one of the event’s biggest benefits was the NSRA safety inspection, a second set of eyes that reviews your vehicle from top to bottom. Once the safety crew finds that everything is in order, the coveted NSRA safety sticker is added to your windshield. In addition to peace of mind, it would probably add to the resale value when it’s time to trade.

Throughout the day, the voice of NSRA, Wings Callahan, called lucky numbers for door prizes while NSRA and industry representatives examined the collection of rides, choosing their special picks. On Sunday, the selected vehicles assembled in the circle of winners for the crowd to admire. Sunday was also the day for the famous NSRA giveaways, beginning with four lucky individuals who headed home with envelopes containing $2,000 in cash! While receiving a plaque or cash is certainly exciting, hearing your name called for some of the $56,000 worth of super prizes awarded that afternoon also made for a memorable weekend.

The 51st annual Street Rod Nationals in 2020 will be held at Louisville, Kentucky. Two lucky prize winners will drive home in new street rods, to be awarded on Saturday and Sunday.
