An S-10 Completed in Record Time

Whenever customizers pick up a new project that’s already had some work done to it, they’re all about adding their spin and bringing the truck to the finish line. This was the case for Bo McElwee’s Chevrolet S-10 that he picked up in Texas from painter Brian Vastine. The S-10 had already seen plenty of custom work from a body drop complete with 2×4-inch square tubing back-half, a shaved exterior and some interior work that was then in progress. Bo kept things rolling by cleaning it up, painting the truck and finishing the interior to match so he could call it his own.

The truck recently saw its journey nearing the end when previous owner Brian Vastine brought the rockers to the ground. The rear suspension consists of a triangulated 4-link with Slam Specialties airbags built into the custom 2 x 4-inch back-half completed by Ryan at Killer Ridez. The rearend was narrowed to accommodate wide 20- and 22-inch Boyd Coddington Shadow billet wheels wrapped in Nitto NT555 245/35 and 285/35 tires respectively. The motor has been kept fairly stock save for some reworked motor mounts and a Magnaflow exhaust system and a cold air intake.

The outside was the next to see attention with a newer front end, cowl hood and molded-in roll pan out back complete with billet LED taillights. Everything else that could be was shaved. Brian had intended for the mini to receive a patina-style paint job, but Bo had different ideas and instead smoothed the truck and sprayed it Wanda Base Grabber Blue with a Platinum Pearl coat over the top at Benton Auto Collision. Then his friend Kyle Carter striped the truck front and rear.

The interior was next on the agenda during the quick three-month build. The S-10 had its interior swapped over to a newer model with black panels. Bo took a few of those panels to smooth and paint the same Grabber Blue. The old school 1969 Nova bench seat stayed in the mini but was dyed to match. A few billet goodies were added before they tackled the audio system. A custom fiberglass enclosure was created to house a pair of Power Acoustic 10-inch subwoofers powered by a Memphis Audio 1,100-watt amplifier.

Bo would like to thank Brian for the foundation, his brother Dusty McElwee for the influence, Philip at Benton Auto Collision, Kyle Carter, Danny Bryant and Damian Rodriguez for their help in completing the truck in such a short amount of time. ST

THE S-10 FEATURES A 1969 NOVA BENCH SEAT AND CUSTOM AUDIO SYSTEM.
