For 2024, the 4Runner TRD Pro receives a two all-new exclusive colors, Terra and Underground. With room for up to seven, the fifth-generation 4Runner remains the most capable of its proud family tree, and it is also the most accommodating and most comfortable. 4Runner grades for 2024 include the SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, and TRD Pro.Subscribe to our weekly newsletter A 270-horsepower DOHC 4.0-liter V-6 engine with 278 ft-lbs of peak torque gives 4Runner plenty of get-up-and-go. The engine’s Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) helps optimize torque across the engine’s operating range responsiveness in a variety of driving conditions. All models can tow a maximum of 5,000 pounds, with a maximum 500-pound tongue weight. The 4Runner TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro models are equipped with an electronic-locking rear differential and Toyota’s Crawl Control (CRAWL) feature. The latter helps maintain a constant speed in low-speed, off-road situations, enhancing vehicle control when driving up, over, or down obstacles. With the transfer case shifted into low range, CRAWL regulates engine speed and braking force to slowly move the vehicle forward or in reverse at one of the five driver-selectable, low-speed settings. This function allows the driver to focus on steering without having to also modulate the throttle or brake pedal in challenging terrain. As trail conditions change, the driver can adapt to the amount of traction using the standard Multi-Terrain Select system using a dial to choose a mode that matches prevailing surface conditions. The system will then adjust wheel slip control accordingly. Toyota’s 36-month/36,000-mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and corrosion with no mileage limitation. Hyundai 2024 Santa Cruz Earns ‘Best Urban Pickup’ by Cars.com Hyundai’s 2024 Santa Cruz has earned a Top Pick: Best Urban Pickup designation from Cars.com in its inaugural Pickup Truck Buying Guide. All pickup trucks from the 2024 model year were considered for this guide. The Santa Cruz stood out to Cars.com’s editors for its ability to blend adventure with everyday practicality and for its host of desirable features. “The Santa Cruz demonstrates a vehicle that can provide versatility in urban settings and beyond,” said Ricky Lao, director, product planning, Hyundai Motor America. “We appreciate the Top Pick recognition by Cars.com and will continue to offer innovative design, powerful and eco-efficient drivetrains, driver convenience, and advanced safety features to our customers.” Aaron Bragman, Cars.com Detroit bureau chief and author of the Pickup Truck Buying Guide, says those looking for a truck for use in the city should consider the Hyundai Santa Cruz. “With a sleek and compact design, lockable hard-top tonneau cover and an incredibly comfortable ride, it’s a city dweller’s dream,” he said. “And thanks to its Surround View Monitor, parallel parking on tight city streets has never been easier.” To qualify for a Cars.com Top Pick, vehicles must provide solid fuel economy ratings and/or range along with capability and value. For pickup truck-specific recognitions, functional considerations like payload and towing capacities are also assessed. Of course, vehicles must also have practical attributes that make them good for family-duty, given that many are purchased for this role.
