Across the U.S. and even in other countries, resto-mod-style trucks, especially C-10s, are in the works. One such truck is Jim Higgins’ ‘77 Chevrolet C-10 out of Brantford, Ontario, Canada. The truck started out as a mild, ‘bagged factory C-10 before Jim, with help from Jason Albano at Wild Rides & Fabrication, decided to go all out. The goal was to modernize everything under the hood and along the suspension. Some trick metalwork would eventually see its way into the bed and interior, but everything else was restored factory fresh.
The frame was stripped bare and smoothed to make way for the full Porterbuilt Drop- member and rear 4-link treatment powered by AccuAir. CPP hydroboost and massive Wilwood six-piston, 14-inch and rear four-piston, 13-inch brakes handle the stopping power behind 22- inch Billet Specialties Vintec wheels and Yoko- hama tires. The rearend is shortened 2 inches with Moser axles. For clearance, the bed floor was raised and the factory tubs were widened with custom metalwork. A Porterbuilt fuel cell sits between the rails.
Under the hood, the firewall and inner fend- ers were smoothed with sheet metal and cleared for a modern LS power plant. An L99 Mast Mo- torsports engine with Mast fuel system and coil relocator kit, and Vintage Air Frontrunner system that puts out 570 hp were dropped in with a custom-built 4L65E Gearstar transmission.
On the inside, the truck will remain fairly stock with a few modern accessories, including Vintage Air air conditioning, a Flaming River steering column and Dakota Digital VHX gauges. Once every upgrade is finished, the truck will be resprayed its factory paint scheme with a few finishing touches to complete the truck in true resto-mod fashion. It’s all about classic looks with modern performance and reliability.
