Keeping It in the Family: Hector Marmolejo’s 1990 Chevy OBS 454 SS, ‘Plandemic’

Keeping It in the Family

For Hector Marmolejo, building “Plandemic,” his 1990 Chevy OBS 454 SS, wasn’t just a project: It was a lifelong dream. From his hometown of La Porte, Texas, Hector turned a roller he bought from his brother into a masterpiece. With help from family, a $150,000 investment, and a year’s worth of elbow grease, Hector, an instrument tech by trade, brought Plandemic to life—blending tradition and innovation into one badass build.

The journey began when Hector snagged this truck from his brother, Jose Peña, who didn’t just sell it—he rolled up his sleeves and put in countless hours to help build it. The custom bodywork started with Dru Custom Builds in Texas. They added sheetmetal wheel tubs in the bed and Heart Fab front tubs, letting this Chevy lay frame while flexing those monster wheels. Once the metalwork was dialed in, Alamo Customs in Alvin, Texas, sprayed it in PPG 99K Black to give it a sinister finish.

Underneath that glossy black hood sits a 6.2L LS engine out of a 2019 Corvette, but don’t let that fool you—it isn’t stock. Dru Custom Builds overhauled it with an ICT LT engine mount kit, a Texas Speed Stage 2 cam, ported and polished heads, and a Borla XR-1 exhaust with a 3-inch H-pipe. Boost Tech Fab added a custom cold air intake, and the Entropy radiator keeps everything running cool. With 11.5:1 compression and that killer setup, this Bow Tie roars to life and never quits.

The chassis got just as much love. Dru Custom Builds rebuilt the back half, powdercoated it, and swapped the factory arms for Stone Fab control arms. Air Lift suspension and QA1 shocks help it glide, while the custom fuel cell and powdercoated red suspension parts tie it all together. The Budnik Gasser D wheels—22×8.5s up front and 24x15s out back—wrapped in Pirelli PZeros, give this truck its street stance.

Inside, it’s all about those vibes. Campos Upholstery covered the seats, panels, and headliner in red leather, while Juan Sorto painted the interior plastics flat red to match. The Budnik  Gasser D steering wheel ties in with the wheels, and OneGauge digital gauges modernize the dash without losing the old school charm.

Hector debuted Plandemic at Dino’s Get Down in Chandler, Arizona, and it’s already locked in for LST 2025. For him, the standout feature is the OEM red interior—it’s bold, unique, and impossible to ignore.

Hector gives a heartfelt shoutout to his girlfriend Stephanie, his brother Jose, and his parents for their support.

“Without God, none of this would’ve been possible,” Hector says. Plandemic isn’t just a build—it’s familia, culture, and passion on wheels.
